Summary: This striking Calathea ‘Network’ showcases intricate mosaic-like leaf patterns, adding refined elegance and lush rainforest vibes to your indoor plant collection – and it’s safe for pets!
✨ Why You'll Love the Goeppertia kegeljanii 'Network' (Calathea musaica)
- Unique, finely patterned green leaves resembling a digital mosaic
- Medium-large size (approx. 40 cm height) perfect for desks, shelves, or side tables
- Pet-safe, making it ideal for homes with cats and dogs
- Excellent air-purifying qualities to refresh your indoor environment
- Slow, compact growth habit for neat styling in European apartments
🌞 Light & Placement
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain crisp leaf patterns. Tolerates medium light but avoid direct sun, which can fade its delicate markings.
💧 Water & Humidity
Keep soil consistently moist but never soggy. Loves high humidity (50–70%); mist regularly or place near a humidifier, especially during dry winter months in Germany and Europe.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a rich, well-draining peat-based mix with perlite. Repot every 1–2 years in spring to refresh soil and ensure continued healthy growth in its 14 cm pot.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Pet-safe. Non-toxic to cats, dogs, and humans, making it a worry-free choice for plant lovers with pets.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Produces new shoots from its base. Propagate by careful division during repotting in spring, ensuring each section has roots attached.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
Wipe leaves gently with a damp cloth monthly to maintain their glossy mosaic appearance. Reduce watering slightly in winter while keeping humidity high.
🐛 Common Issues
Brown leaf tips are common with low humidity or hard tap water. Use filtered or rainwater for best results, and avoid cold drafts.
🧬 Botanical Background
Native to Brazil, Goeppertia kegeljanii (formerly Calathea musaica) is prized for its lattice-patterned foliage, which looks almost computer-generated. Its unique ‘Network’ variety is beloved by collectors for its elegant, geometric beauty.
